While not an eye-catching project, This ADU set precedence in the city of Palm Springs as the first ADU approved under the new state laws put in place in 2017. This project was a conversion of an existing permitted storage and playroom. The local jurisdiction was hesitant to its approval, however, Basis Studio was able to provide the expertise needed to get an approval in a jurisdiction notoriously resistant to rentable granny flats. Moreover, this ADU is registered as a short-term rental with the city and provides tax revenue for the city as well as passive income for the homeowner.
